Staff from the Prince George office (the “Triton Tenderfoots”) participated in the 24 hour Relay For Life held in Prince George May 9-10, 2015, to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. The team raised a total of $4,246.25 in donations with a considerable amount coming from Triton employees.
Over the 24 hour period we had 12 staff participate walking for periods of 1 to 3 hours at a time (as well as a few spouses and children joining in for support). Together the team tracked their activity with a Fitbit logger passed between them, recording a total of 146,254 steps or 68.21 miles over the 24 hour period.
As promised, PG Operations Manager Dave Warburton donated an additional $10 for each 10,000 steps taken, for a total of $146.25 that brought our final total to $4,246.25 which more than doubled our original fundraising goal of $2,000! The city of Prince George ended up being the No. 1 Relay for Life city in Canada. With donations still coming in into the summer, the total had surpassed $519,000, giving Prince George the title for the second year in a row.
